This project gave me the opportunity to select and brand an exhibit based on a single artwork from the Museum of Fine Arts Boston (MFA). The project had to create an experience across four different touch points:
Augmented Reality
Create a dynamic media experience to enhance viewing the work or collection in-person.
Mobile Experience
Create a system of way-finding visuals or design intervention: maps, printed guides, floor graphics, murals, signage, kiosks, interactive stations, etc.
Desktop Experience
A single page going into deeper detail about the area you select in the museum.
Physical Way-finding Intervention
Create a system of way-finding visuals or design intervention: maps, printed guides, floor graphics, murals, signage, kiosks, interactive stations, etc.
When visiting the MFA I found myself getting lost pretty quickly. I wandered around for a bit until I found an exhibit showcasing the work of Matthew Wong called “realm of appearances”. The exhibit was unique in that the artworks were different enough in material and style that I thought there were multiple artists being shown. However, I soon learned that they were all Matthew Wong and suddenly the work became so much more relatable to me. I also work in many mediums and explore different styles. It felt like I was witnessing Wong’s journey to learn how to paint.
To my surprise the exhibit was relatively empty compared to the rest of the MFA. People seemed to overlook the exhibit. As I observed people and how they interacted with the price I noticed the viewers were mostly young adults or older people. They all seemed to gravitate to the center room where most of Wong’s ink on paper pieces were. In the room was a table that asked people to write a poem inspired by any work on a card and add it to the stack. Many people interacted with the cards and either wrote or read other’s poems. The installation really gained the most attention to the younger audience while the older viewers tended to continue observing the artwork and sometimes completely ignoring the table. Personally I wish there was more interactivity.
Final Video
Final short film to explaining my branded experience about the Matthew Wong's Realms of Appearances at the MFA.
